Reviews
The Butterfly Conservatory is a tropical escape located within the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens in Niagara Falls. Inside its climate-controlled glass conservatory, thousands of colourful butterflies fly freely among lush plants, tropical flowers, pathways, and small waterfalls, creating an immersive experience for visitors of all ages.
What to Know
Operated by Niagara Parks, the Butterfly Conservatory is home to more than 2,000 tropical butterflies representing dozens of different species. Visitors begin with a short educational presentation before entering the conservatory, where butterflies can be observed feeding, resting on plants, and flying throughout the tropical environment.
What to See and Do
Follow the winding pathways through the conservatory and look for butterflies of different colours, patterns, and sizes along the way. Feeding stations and tropical plants provide plenty of opportunities for close-up views and photographs, while the emergence window offers a fascinating look at butterflies at different stages of their life cycle.
Helpful Tips
The conservatory is warm and humid throughout the year, so dressing in light layers can make your visit more comfortable. Allow approximately 45 minutes to an hour to explore, and take your time along the pathways—butterflies may even land on visitors as they move through the conservatory. The surrounding Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens are also worth exploring before or after your visit.
