American Falls

American Falls is one of the three waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls and one of the most impressive natural attractions on the New York side. Located entirely within the United States, the falls stretch between Prospect Point and Luna Island, sending enormous volumes of water over a broad rocky crest and into the Niagara Gorge below.

What to Know

American Falls measures approximately 850 feet across its crest, while its height ranges from about 70 to 110 feet when measured to the large rock pile, known as the talus, at its base. From the crest to the Niagara River below, the total drop is approximately 188 feet.

Visitors can experience American Falls from several viewpoints throughout Niagara Falls State Park. Prospect Point provides one of the best overall views, while Luna Island brings visitors close to the brink between American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. The Niagara Falls Observation Tower also offers panoramic views of the falls and surrounding gorge.
